Shooting in Afghanistan

In 2007, Obama made a promise to bring our troops home, not only from Iraq, but also from Afghanistan. That promise has proven unfruitful. Smoke and mirrors may fly with magic acts, but to take troops from Iraq and slap them into Afghanistan may have been proven deadlier than thought.

This recent shooting of civilians in Afghanistan by a U.S. Soldier acting under NATO, is a prime example of how splitting a hair can cause major problems. The event also calls into question whether or not the military is being stretched too thin.

The unnamed sergeant is being held in NATO custody but there were problems surfacing long before the event. Having served three tours in Iraq, and going on his fourth tour in Afghanistan, serving four tours in a war zone in ten years should be questionable. But where are the anti-war people on this?

According to the Department of the Army spokesperson, the soldier was having home problems as well. And as more and more trickles out, we will likely discover that, like Nidal Hassan (who was hailed as heroic by some Muslims, defended by others as a “victim”) there were tell-tale signs that were ignored by the military.

The soldier, according to records, had suffered a mild traumatic brain injury several years ago. He was treated and given the fit enough to return to duty.

The fact is, our military is being stressed to a breaking point which our Commander and Creep isn't recognizing. And his constant apologizing for the mere existence, not only of our troops but America in general, isn't helping morale one little bit.

According to the Army public health command, suicides spiked by 80% between 2004-2008. Post traumatic stress disorder is seemingly more common than before. At the present time, more than 13% of the Army- which has borne the brunt of our military action in Iraq and Afghanistan- meets the criteria for PTSD.

In a report last year, General Peter W. Chiarelli described today's modern soldier's life:
"At 24 years of age, a soldier, on average, has moved from home, family and friends and has resided in two other states; has traveled the world (deployed); been promoted four times; bought a car and wrecked it; married and had children; has had relationship and financial problems; seen death; is responsible for dozens of soldiers; maintains millions of dollars worth of equipment; and gets paid less than $40,000 a year."
This time, an Obama apology is going to mean even less than before. The last apology didn't work. This time they're demanding the soldier. And though Obama says the man will be tried in our military system, there's only one thing the Appeaser and Chief can possibly do to absolutely demonstrate that he's a good dhimmie: turn over the sergeant.

I don't even want to think of what that would be like for the wife and children of that thirty-eight year-old soldier. Nor his parents.

At the present time, Nidal Hassan sits in prison. He is alive, in spite of having murdered thirteen of his fellow soldiers and one unborn child. To me, there's no difference between the two cases. Well, except one difference: Nidal Hassan wasn't stopped in time because political correctness dictated that we let him continue on until he committed murder. This unnamed soldier was found “fit” for duty in a foreign land he had not signed on to be in, doing a duty he didn't and shouldn't have been doing, under circumstances far more stressing than that of Nidal Hassan.

It's time to bring our troops home. They got rid of Osama bin Laden, only to be castigated for doing so. And, if you ask me, winding up dead under odd circumstances. If Obama really wants to win over the Taliban, instead of placating them with apologies and acting like he “cares”, all he has to do is take our troops out. Yes, that means women in Afghanistan will be overrun by the Taliban. But in case nobody noticed, there are still many women willingly wearing the burka and following Taliban rules.

Send over Hillary Clinton, Janet Reno, Jane Fonda, Cindy Sheehan, and the entire entourage of the traveling pants suit over there to ugly the Taliban to death. At least then our troops will live.
